Reach Beyond Capital Campaign – A Success!

Letter from our Executive Director on the Building Project

Greetings from Las Trampas’ new campus!

I’m so happy to be able to share this moment with all of you. Sometimes, it seems like an eon since we embarked on this endeavor, but in reality it’s only been nearly a decade since our Board of Directors decided that the people we serve deserve better, in fact, they deserve opportunity, inclusion, and a place that incorporates the necessary technology and resources that create equity. I am so proud of the Board’s foresight.

We left behind a building built in 1968, with flat roofs that leaked during every storm, termites that had eaten away at support beams, bathrooms so small they were inaccessible to people who use wheelchairs, and settling cracks in pavement that posed hazards to even those with a steady gate.

We had a dream of a state-of-the-art facility with large, accessible, flexible spaces that promote independence, choice, and personal growth. A building with accessibility features including push-button and automatic doorways, changing rooms for adult hygiene, elevators, ADA compliant ramps, and more. We dreamed of a facility that would allow us to increase our capacity and bring in participants off the significant waitlist for our gold-standard programming.

A little over two years later, our dream came to fruition, and we’re moved into our new state-of-the-art facility!

I hope you all have the opportunity to tour the building to experience the magic that happens when people with varying needs are heard and their ideas and dreams are made into reality.  When observation, interviews, research, and expertise collide with skill, craftsmanship, and design, you end up with a magical space where people of ALL abilities are welcome and provided opportunities for success.

So, here we are, at the crossroads where dreams meet reality. It’s been a very long road, bumpy at times, twisting, and winding. But the road was never lonely because you were there with us. Thank you for joining us on our little trip, but be aware, the real trip is only beginning, and I look forward to you staying with us for the ride.

I have to be clear, that this project is NOT just about a building and technology. It’s about equity. It’s about opportunity. It’s about inclusion. This project is about changing lives.

Thank you for all you have done and will do to support Las Trampas and the people we serve here.
