Henry and Ray are best friends.

Most days you can find them out in the community with their Las Trampas staff support person—grocery shopping, visiting local museums and parks, and having coffee at their local Starbucks.

Henry and Ray are residents of Maureen House—one of our four community based homes. They, like all the residents of Las Trampas homes, experience behavior issues that mean they haven’t always been able to live in the community for their safety and that of the people around them.

Working with Las Trampas has given Henry, Ray, and others the opportunity to be part of their community. For staff members who work in the residential homes, keeping both residents and their neighbors safe while making sure residents can take active part in their community is the priority.

Instead of being isolated in an institutional setting, Las Trampas residents shop for their own food, visit friends, attend baseball games, go fishing, go to church if they choose, and visit amusement parks like Six Flags (some of our folks have their own season passes!). Staff are always on the lookout for fun outings to expand residents’ experiences and allow them to access all their communities have to offer.

It is clear from lack of behavioral issues, the smile on the residents’ faces, and the stories they tell of their adventures that they are truly happier when they are able to take full advantage of their communities. And we know from the comments we hear from our neighbors that they enjoy sharing a neighborhood with residents of Las Trampas homes.

So if you see Henry, Ray, or any of the rest of the Las Trampas crew out and about, don’t hesitate to say “Hi”.
