They touch our lives making a difference that we will never forget. When Cat giggles her smile reflects a magical blend of support from her family and friends and her personal motivation to experience life fully and to give to others. She wants to try new things, to meet new people and capture her adventures in her writings. Cat came to LTI’s day program to explore a variety of activities and to expand her talents. An avid writer, she composes a column for the staff newsletter, called “Cat’s Corner.” We all support her dream to write a book someday and no one doubts her success. When grant money enabled LTI to start Entrepreneurs Club, Cat began exploring every new opportunity. She now makes beaded jewelry and is very proud when people want to buy it. Speaking up and self-advocacy come easily to Cat but the beauty of her personality is that she encourages her peers to express themselves, too. It wasn’t surprising when she became one of the founders of our First Friday Advocacy Group. They took their responsibilities seriously and soon will be an official People First Chapter. Living independently in the community with friends is a realistic expectation for someone like Cat. She has the motivation to be independent yet knows and appreciates the strength she gains through her circle of support. Although she uses a wheelchair and needs assistance because of the challenges of cerebral palsy, nothing holds her back. She’s ready to wheel to the next adventure or to try new technology to enable her to participate fully in activities. This year Cat and all the people with developmental disabilities at Las Trampas need your full participation in LTI’s circle of support. Our economy and years of cutbacks have pummeled our service system. Las Trampas has suffered. Cuts this year will exceed $160,000. The New Year may bring more. As our auditor affirms, our administrative costs are only 11% and we have maximized every dollar we receive. We need your help. During our Angel Campaign our Band of Angels will match your contribution. What better way to celebrate the holiday season than to double your gift?
