Las Trampas supports adults with developmental disabilities to discover their capabilities and to lead full lives in their home, at work, and in the community.

Adult Residential Model (ARM)

Las Trampas provides residential facilities that are licensed through the California Department of Social Services-Community Care Licensing Division. These services assist individuals with living in the community. These residential facilities offer a home to individuals with 24-hour staff support. Currently, Las Trampas operates four homes in Contra Costa County – all of which are designed to support individuals with behavioral concerns. The emphasis is to provide necessary supports to maintain community placement in a home setting. Such supports and training include, but are not limited to:

  • Self-advocacy
  • Community integration
  • Activities of daily living
  • Behavioral support and teaching socially appropriate replacement skills
  • Medical services coordinated by board certified registered nurses

With the pending closure of the State-operated institution Sonoma Developmental Center in December of 2018, Las Trampas has worked with the Regional Center of the East Bay and key stakeholders to develop specialized residential facilities to welcome those in the Developmental Center into our community. For many of these individuals, this will be their first opportunity to live outside the walls of an institutional setting.

In February 2014, Las Trampas opened its first specialized residential facility to support individuals with significant behavioral challenges. Due to the success of this home Las Trampas opened another specialized residential facility in the Fall of 2016.

Careful thought and consideration has gone into the development of these homes to anticipate and meet the intense needs of those to be served, including not only the physical structure, but increased staffing ratios, staff training, and specialized program designs. These homes have been modified to be compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards to support individuals who may be non-ambulatory and use a wheelchair or other assistive device for mobility. Such modifications include roll-in shower and accessible restroom, interior and exterior ramps and hand rails, easy-access emergency exits, accessible kitchen, and accessible common areas. These homes also have increased staffing ratios to ensure immersion into the community and the safety of the individuals, staff, and members of the community.
